Let’s be real, you are currently contemplating just pulling some vows off of a google search.
I know it can be overwhelming when your first sit down to write your vows. The trick is to go off of some prompts and organize your thoughts. Here are some tips to help get you in the right headspace.
Do not wait until the last minute!
I know this might sound obvious, but you would be surprised how many people wait until the day before or even the day of. Your vows are important and you don’t want to rush the process.
On the day of your wedding, there is so much going on. You are excited and nervous, and your mind is running 100 mph. I can see the logic behind waiting until then. Maybe you want to write from the heart and feel your feelings on the wedding day, or maybe you think the words will come to you better on the spot.
I just want to caution you because after being a part of countless weddings, I know how overwhelming that day can be. Do you really want to add one more thing to your plate? Do yourself a favor and set yourself up to enjoy your special day as much as you can, and don’t put off the most important words you will ever say to your spouse.
Write down your thoughts
Before you start trying to write out your vows in sentences, consider making bullet points of things you want to include. Organize them into the beginning, middle, and end. Once you have that done, go back through and elaborate.
This will help you keep your thoughts organized, and help the ideas start to flow.
Things to include
A few things to consider are promises you want to make, special memories, what your future will be, and what you’re looking forward to. Of course, you want to speak from the heart. Are there any inside jokes or memories you want to reference? Add anything that will make your vows more personal and original.
Finally, end with a promise! Let your spouse know what to expect from you in your marriage and describe the person you want to be for them.
Your vows are between you and your fiancé! Don’t worry about what everyone else would want to hear, write from your heart as if it’s just the two of you in the room!
